          Adam Johann Braun was born in 1748 in Vienna and died in the same city in 1827. From 1762 he studied under Frister and M. van Bytens at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, becoming a member in 1789._57-3web          He was a painter, engraver and graphic artist, but was especially known for his high society scenes (often painted on copper) in style of the Dutch 17th-century masters (such as Gerard Dou, Willem van Mieris, Gerard ter Borch). Additionally, Braun was active as restorer and art appraiser.
